Yamaha Corporation was founded by Torasaku Yamaha as a reed organ and piano manufacturer called Nippon Gakki Co. Ltd. in 1887. Following World War II, Yamaha Motor Company emerged as its own company and debuted its first motorcycle model the YA-1 in 1955. With this motorcycle, they found success in racing by winning the 3rd Mt. Fuji Ascent Race and the All Japan Autobike Endurance Road Race, as well as placed 6th in the Catalina Grand Prix.
